LSAC - Law School Admission Council

Configure CAS Data Flow Settings

LSAC offers people who are interested in applying to law school a Credential Assembly Service to simplify the application process. For those who pay for the service, LSAC electronically shares information from the person’s LSAC account with applied law schools that use Unite to manage their applicant admissions. CAS data flow settings determine if and how your school receives updated data from LSAC during this exchange.

There are over 40 fields on a person record that Unite can update when a Credential Assembly Services report flows in electronically. For fields with just one possible value, you decide how you want Unite to handle the data. The following table provides a description of each CAS data flow setting. For fields that allow for multiple values, such as the Interests field and the Ethnicity field, Unite automatically merges data from the CAS report with data that may already be in the system.

To configure CAS data exchange settings

  1. Open a browser and log on to Unite.

  2. Click and expand your username to display the system configuration > menu.

  3. Click Global Settings.

  4. Click the Data Flow tab.

  5. Verify you are on the CAS DATA FLOW SETTINGS grid.

  6. From the School Type list box, select JD or LLM depending on the > CAS data flow settings you want to configure.

Note

If your school only offers traditional juris doctor (JD) degrees, there is one set of CAS data flow settings that you can configure. However, if your school also offers an advanced law certification that has global credibility (LLM), there are two sets of CAS data flow settings – one for JD and one for LLM. The settings can be different for each type of degree.
  1. For each field description, select the CAS data flow setting.

Note

If you select Overwrite, Unite replaces what is in the system with CAS data that flows in from LSAC. If you select Do Not Overwrite, Unite leaves what is in the system and does not allow CAS data to flow in from LSAC. If you select Overwrite only if blank, Unite only allows CAS data to flow in for fields that are currently blank.
  1. Click the Save button .

  2. Click the Close button to close the LSAC Unite Setup window.
